about

Originally released in 2006 on CD, it is our pleasure to make this music available again now in 2020, on the internets.
Füj was the 1st album born of Fuji Collective. 6 mates who grew up in Sydney, Australia and by the time we finished high school in 2003, were meeting up compulsively to play music together. Regularly celebrating life with epic jams, we experimented with plugging a basic mic into a Sony minidisc, chucking it on the floor, and hitting record. Some of these jam recordings may become available soon.
The sheer innocent pleasure from such audiological activities was unsurpassed! The creativity and collective crafting filled our worlds, we lived for this music for years, and shared it as often as possible with our community; in Leichhardt backyard parties, Sydney University environmental fundraisers, parents 60th's, venues around Sydneys inner west, to the epic Renegade Stage events on King St on Newtown Festival day. And then the incredible Channel Parties in abandoned warehouses of Sydney, where thousands amassed to share love and dance their arses off.
Fuji Collective became apart of the landscape, engrained in the culture, and integral in the birthing of a decade long monthly event; Deja. I am deeply proud for all of it.
Füj for us was a vast achievement, we loved playing the music, but for the 6 of us it was our first time recording, and we faced the nakedness of hearing our own sounds played back to us. We all scrounged our dollars together and went to Max's uncle, Uncle Mike's studio in the cold lands of Blackheath past The Blue Mountains. We camped out in his backyard and it snowed. I remember waking in the middle of the night to piss, clambering out of a mass of tired dudes, blankets and sleeping bags, climbing out of the tent and tripping out when what looked like a blueish purple texture, dissolved beneath my stream.. Snow! It doesn't snow in Sydney, this was freaky, and rad.

Thanks so much to everyone who was there, you who we lived side by side with, loved dearly, and whose inspirations helped us create this music.
- Tommy

Fuji set the trajectory for my entire life. Creativity, collaboration, wild music, community building - these all got imprinted on me in those formative years. I'm doing my best to keep living it everyday, and it's my blueprint for the future. Fuj on !

Fuji Collective Sydney, Australia

Fuji Collective music is highly imaginative, often unpredictable, and showcases the energy of all six band members thanks to the group's commitment to collective composition. Their sound traverses jazz, various forms of rock and avant-garde, but always brings it back to the funk. ... more
